Pillars of Empowerment

Since its very beginning, EduEra has been working with the topics of leadership and supporting young people in local communities. A long time ago, a group of passionate individuals came together around a shared vision: to empower young people to become leaders in their own communities. They knew that achieving this vision would also require a new generation of youth workers equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to support and lead this process.
Leadership is often associated with people who hold positions of authority or power within organisations, but in reality, leadership is much more than that. At its core, leadership is about inspiring and empowering others to work towards a shared goal — whether in the workplace, within a community, or in personal relationships.
For young leaders in local communities, developing leadership competencies is important for several reasons. It enables them to make a positive impact on the people and communities around them, while also helping them build personal resilience, develop valuable life skills, and prepare for future opportunities and challenges.
In today’s rapidly changing world, equipping young people with the skills they need to become confident and effective leaders is more important than ever. This is why the EduEra team embarked on the ambitious Pillars of Empowerment project.
The project focused on supporting a new generation of youth workers, community leaders, and group leaders by providing them with practical tools and methodologies designed to strengthen key competencies, increase their confidence, and help them create their own personal path towards achieving their goals.
The project was divided into four phases and included two intensive 10-day residential training courses, held in Strengberg, Austria, and Kysak, Slovakia. After each training, 30 youth workers returned to their local communities in less-developed areas, where they tested and implemented the methods they had learned.
The first training in Austria focused on coaching methods, while the second training in Slovakia explored leadership and graphic facilitation. These approaches were designed to help participants support and empower young people more effectively, with particular attention to youth living in less-developed regions.
The knowledge, competencies, and practical skills gained during the project prepared participants to start using these methods immediately in their professional and voluntary roles. Beyond the local impact, the project also had a strong European dimension. Participants had the opportunity to connect with colleagues from youth organisations across Europe, identify common challenges, exchange experiences, and discover opportunities for future cooperation.
By recognising shared realities across different countries, participants also strengthened their sense of European belonging and laid the foundations for new partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
Our aim was to empower these individuals to become real agents of change in their own communities, with a particular focus on strengthening youth leadership and supporting young people to take a more active role in shaping their surroundings.
The project’s focus on coaching methods and graphic facilitation brought an innovative dimension to leadership development, combining creative problem-solving, reflection, communication, and practical action.
Pillars of Empowerment demonstrates why leadership development matters in youth work and how strong leadership competencies can be transformed into meaningful and positive change in local communities.
